Langkit

The Maranao or Maranaw are often referred to as “people of the lake” in reference to Lake Lanao, the ancestral homeland of the Maranao people. Tugaya is a unique town in Lanao del Sur inhabited almost entirely by craftsmen and artisans of various pursuits. Its the ground zero for all Maranao arts and crafts. The weavers specializes in making decorative strips of fabrics known as langkit that are incorporated in their infamous malong landap, an important part of their traditional clothing. Done using a back-strap loom weaving, the pagaulen (weaver) shows their mastery in craft by doing the traditional okir design.
